When you're spending time down the shore, it’s fun to treat yourself to breakfast out. Here are some of the Beachcomber Blog’s favorite breakfast and brunch spots in the Belmar area, all within a short walk, bike ride or drive of our beach house rental.
These eight restaurants have elevated French toast, pancakes, and even the humble egg to new levels of deliciousness. (Restaurants listed in alphabetical order.)
1. Acropolis Café
506 Main Street
Belmar, New Jersey 732-556-0050
Acropolis Café in downtown Belmar is an old-school Greek diner with counter and table seating, as well as sidewalk dining in the warmer months. The restaurant has been part of the Belmar business community since July 21, 2000, when the owners, Andy and Olga, first opened their doors. During a recent visit, we enjoyed eggs Benedict with home fries and the Hungry Man special (two eggs, two pancakes or French toast, choice of breakfast meat, home fries, and toast). The breakfast menu also includes pancakes, omelettes, hot breakfast sandwiches, Belgian waffles, and sides such as oatmeal, toasted bagels and English muffins, and bran and corn muffins.
For the little ones, Acropolis Café also has a children's breakfast special with one egg, one pancake or French toast, home fries, and choice of sausage link or patty, pork roll or ham.
UPDATE 4-12-2023: Acropolis Café has permanently closed on February 13, 2023, after 21 years of serving the Belmar community. A new breakfast and lunch spot, Robin's Nest, opened in this location on April 15, 2023.
2. The Buttered Biscuit Café
700 Main Street Bradley Beach, New Jersey 07720 732-807-4069
www.thebutteredbiscuitcafe.com
The Buttered Biscuit Café in Bradley Beach is a local hot spot, well worth the wait for a table. On Sunday mornings, a 45-minute wait for a table is not unusual, so get here as early as you can (or, do as we do and grab a seat at the counter, or get an order to go). Our favorite dishes include the cali crab, the Buttered Biscuit scramble, and the eggs Oscar (pictured below). Breakfast is served Sunday through Saturday beginning at 8:00 a.m.

3. Comfi of Belmar
707 Main Street
Belmar, New Jersey 07719
732-749-3583
Comfi of Belmar opened in summer 2017 in downtown Belmar, New Jersey. The casual breakfast and lunch restaurant is locally known for its generous portions and giant pancakes.
Try the loaded pierogi omelette; the eggs Benedict topped with a crispy Bell and Evans chicken breast and chipotle hollandaise sauce; chocolate chip pancakes; or their special sampler called the "I'm Still Undecided Breakfast," which includes French toast, two eggs any style, pancakes, a choice of meat, and breakfast potatoes.
